Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA) Screening

AAA screening is offered to men aged 65 and over to detect swelling in the main blood vessel (aorta) in the abdomen. It is a quick, painless ultrasound scan that helps prevent serious complications.

– Men aged 65 are automatically invited.
– Men over 65 can request a scan by contacting the local screening service.
An AAA can grow without symptoms and may be life-threatening if it bursts. Early detection reduces risks through monitoring or treatment.
If you are eligible and haven’t been screened, ask your GP or visit the NHS AAA screening website for more details.

Health Support and Self-Referral Services

For patients seeking advice or help, please consider the following services before booking a GP appointment. This helps save clinicians’ time and allows it to be allocated to another patient, while also providing you with direct 1-to-1 care tailored to your needs.

Mental Health

Self-Referrals

Young People and Teens

Pharmacy Referrals

Patients may be directed to a pharmacy instead of requiring a GP appointment, ensuring quicker access to care and treatment. This approach highlights alternative options, such as consulting a pharmacist for expert advice, checking trusted online resources for guidance, or purchasing over-the-counter medication when appropriate.

Maternity

All the doctors and the community midwife provide maternity medical care for pregnant women.

Some services provided are not covered under our contract with the NHS and therefore attract charges. Examples include the following:

  • Medicals for pre-employment, sports and driving requirements (HGV, PSV etc.)
  • Insurance claim forms
  • Prescriptions for taking medication abroad
  • Private sick notes
  • Vaccination certificates

The fees charged are based on the British Medical Association (BMA) suggested scales and our reception staff will be happy to advise you about them along with appointment availability.

Smear Tests

We recommend a test every three years for women between 20 and 65 years of age. These tests are normally performed by the female nursing staff.

Stopping Smoking

Appointments can be made with either the doctor or the practice nurse or our receptionists can refer you to Nottingham City GP Alliance Stop Smoking Service.

Travel Vaccinations

We offer travel advice and vaccinations at the surgery. Our practice nurse can assess your needs and recommend vaccines based on your completed questionnaire.

Please submit your travel questionnaire between 6 – 12 weeks before your departure to allow sufficient time for appointments and to ensure we have the most up-to-date information. If needed, the nurse may arrange a telephone consultation to discuss your travel plans in more detail.

Due to limited availability, you may need to visit a travel clinic for vaccinations (charges may apply).

For more information, contact the surgery.

  • Travel Questionnaire Assessment: Conducted by a qualified nurse to evaluate your travel needs. (see below if you would like to submit a questionnaire.)
  • Vaccination Administration: The clinician will administer the necessary (if any) vaccinations based on the assessment.
